We solve problems. Period.

“If I want it done right, I have to do it myself.”
The sentence we're hired to retire.

Departure Labs takes on the recurring work that eats your week and the tasks you'd hand off if anyone else could get them right. Sometimes the tools you already have just need better training. Sometimes it is AI your team already adopted on its own, and the work is finding out what is actually in use before deciding what to sanction and what to shut down. Sometimes the answer is commercial software, deployed and integrated properly. Sometimes it is a process that went stale and needs rebuilding. Sometimes it is custom software built specifically for your unique situation. It all starts with a conversation.

We're not an army of suits and fancy titles.

We find specific, measurable pain points and develop solutions that help you scale. The team in the assessment is the team that builds it, runs the pilot with you, and keeps it working afterward.

How it works

It starts as a conversation

The assessment is not a questionnaire. We walk through the recurring work in each department and rank it by the time and the money it costs you, including the jobs you put off because they're boring, and the ones that quietly came back after you tried to delegate them.

We fix the thing, not a deck

Together, we pick one pain point to focus on, then build a strategy and implement the fix for it. Small on purpose. You should be able to tell whether it helps by using it, not by reading about it.

Custom is not the default answer

If training, a reworked process, or quality off-the-shelf software already does the job, we will say so and help you get there instead of building something you have to own forever. Whatever is best for you and your organization is the recommendation you get.

Thirty days in your business

You run it in real conditions for a month, with your people and your data, and we stay close while you do. The point of the pilot is a decision you can make from experience instead of a forecast.

Keep it, or we take the next swing

If the solution ends up being a piece of custom software and it solves the problem, we keep it running and maintain it for a fee based on how complex the thing actually is. If it misses, we shut it down and go after the next item on your list. Either way you learned what that process is really worth, and at minimum you feel better about the software or solution you already had before the engagement.

Where we've worked

Regulated ground is familiar ground

HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI, audit trails and "who touched this record" are ordinary conversations for us, not a research project.

What we get called in for

  • AI adoption
  • Capacity planning
  • Cloud adoption
  • Concierge technology
  • Cost containment
  • Enterprise architecture
  • Identity & access
  • Internal dashboards
  • Legacy modernization
  • M&A
  • Process improvements
  • Risk analysis
  • Systems integration
  • Workflow automation

Industries we already know

  • Accounting
  • Automotive
  • Distribution
  • Family offices
  • Finance
  • Healthcare
  • Hospitality
  • Manufacturing
  • Nonprofits
  • Property management
  • Public companies
  • Retail

That list is where we go deepest, not a fence. If your industry is not on it, that is not a reason to skip the conversation.

If we are not the right fit

Some needs do fall outside our skills. We keep a working network of regional and national organizations, and when the work belongs with one of them, we will make a warm introduction rather than take on something we are not right for.

Book an intro call

Pick a time that works. It is a conversation about the work that costs you the most, with nothing owed on the other side of it.

Tell us what keeps coming back to your desk

One paragraph is plenty. We'll write back to set up a time: a conversation about the work that costs you the most, with nothing owed on the other side of it.
